INTERLUDE: KRISHNA DISAPPEARS

Evam Bhagavathaha Krishnath

Labdamaanaam mahatmanaha

Atmanam menire strinaam

Maaninyobyathikam bhuvi

Tasam tat sowbagamadam

Veekshamanamscha Keshavaha

Prashamaya prasadaaya

Tattraivantara deeyatha

Immersed in their love for Lord Krishna, as they enjoyed his company, the Gopikas began to feel pride in their good fortune. The Lord of the Universe is dancing with us, how blessed and fortunate we are! Krishna realising their spiritual pride wished to purify their souls fro even a glimmer of ego. Therefore, in his infinite kindness and as a blessing to the Gopis, he disappeared from their midst.

THE SONG OF THE GOPIS

Jayathi thedhikam, janmana vruja

Srayatha indira saswadathrahi

Dhayitha, drusyatham dikshuthavaka

Thwayi druthasavasthwam vichinwathe

This land of ours, has always been blessed
For the Goddess of wealth lives here, because of your birth
And everyone is prosperous and happy
We the Gopis who love you, search for you everywhere
So be pleased to come before us, Oh darling Krishna.

Saradudasaye sadu jatha sath, Sarasi jodhara srimusha drusa, Suratha nadha, they shulka dasika, Varada, nignadho neha kim vadha., 2

With your eyes like a lustrous lotus flower on a clear pond in spring
O king of love, you kill us with your absence
Don’t you realise this tortures us, O benefactor of all.
